Stop Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

Stop Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

The Florida Department of Health recognizes teen dating violence as a critical public health issue that affects adolescents across the state. Teen dating violence, encompassing physical, emotional, sexual, or psychological harm within a dating relationship, poses significant risks to the health, well-being, and future of our youth. As part of our commitment to the health and safety of all Floridians, the Department is dedicated to preventing teen dating violence through education, support, and advocacy. We aim to empower teens, parents, educators, and community members with the knowledge and resources to recognize the signs of dating violence, understand its impact, and take proactive steps toward prevention. Prevention and Education We are actively working to integrate teen dating violence prevention strategies into schools, health care settings, and community programs.
Through comprehensive education initiatives, we seek to inform adolescents about healthy relationship behaviors, consent, and the importance of mutual respect. Our efforts are designed to encourage open discussions about the dynamics of healthy versus unhealthy relationships, equipping teens with the skills to navigate their interpersonal relationships safely and respectfully. Support for Victims The Florida Department of Health provides access to resources and services for victims of teen dating violence. We collaborate with local organizations, shelters, and hotlines to ensure that teens facing dating violence have a safe place to turn for help, advice, and support. Our website offers a list of resources, including counseling services, legal assistance, and emergency contact numbers, available statewide to those in need. Advocacy and Awareness Raising awareness about teen dating violence is a key component of our approach. Throughout the year, and especially during Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month in February, we engage in statewide campaigns to increase awareness, share stories, and advocate for policies that protect teens from violence in their relationships.
